Roger Rinderknecht reports from Beijing
Roger Rinderknecht, the Swiss silver medalist of the 2008 mountain bike 4X World Championships, has arrived in Beijing for the Olympic BMX Race competition. A few complications in the very beginning didn’t rattle Roger. He is enjoying the Olympic atmosphere and focusing on the upcoming competition, the biggest race of his life. Roger's first day at the official training course in Taiyuan seemed to be a big disappointment for him: "When I arrived, the course was in really bad conditions and the start gate didn’t work. But my coach Urs Kropf did his best and got the track back in shape after five hours. Thanks Urs!" This experience proved to be the only negative one Roger gained during his first days in China: “Everything else is perfectly organized. The Olympic Village is pretty impressive. Thousands of athletes everywhere. I really enjoy the atmosphere over here." Roger is in his best shape ever and can't wait for the big race next Thursday and the seeding runs the day before. Roger is totally stoked on the official BMX racetrack: "I already knew the course from a test-event last year. I enjoyed riding it back then. But I took a look on it a few days ago and now it really looks like the best BMX track ever built!" Be sure to expect a tough competition in the finals on Thursday morning. Being held the first time ever at Olympic Games, the BMX competition will see the best-prepared racers in history. The US team was even able to train on a 500.000 US Dollar rebuild of the official Olympic Games BMX track that was built almost a year ago in California. But Roger also enjoyed a good preparation. The World Cycling Center in Aigle allowed him to tailor his training to the specific needs of the Olympic course. So Roger, stay focused, do your thing and go for gold!
